End Of Life Estate Planning

May 18, 2022

Give me a few days and I can give your family Peace of Mind

Failing to plan for death can tear families apart, as those charged with helping people leave this world with dignity. We can help you provide your families with the resources to also avoid leaving behind an estate planning nightmare.

People procrastinate on doing Wills, Trusts and Estate planning. Some people don’t even know that their attorney can apply for Medicaid benefits to pay for some of the costs of the care toward the end.

Our office has been committed to the principals and ideals of end of life planning and care. We have collaborated with hospices, hospitals and facilities in providing education to the public and on end of life care.  Those who work directly with families are in a unique and blessed position to provide one more “palliative” service – leaving this world without and estate planning nightmare that can tear families to shreds.

You can do this by asking some basic questions:

  • Do they have a will?
  • Are your assets titled properly,
  • Do they have pre-need funeral services?
  • Do they want to make last minute changes?
  • When did they see your estate planning attorney last?
  • Will they need Medicaid to help pay for care?
  • Have they protected their spouse?
  • Have they made a list of how to disperse their personal property?
  • Have they provided for a pet?
  • Is there an updated and comprehensive asset list and do you know how everything is titled?
  • Are they estranged from any family members?.
  • Are they in a non traditional family requiring special planning?

You would be surprised how many applications for Medicaid benefits I have done for clients on hospice care!  Additionally, I have put estates in order for families prior to death.  Addressing these issues before the end can save money, make sure that the right people inherit, also that loved ones can make decisions if the patient cannot. In addition, put their business and personal life in order and in general make the end as easy and peaceful for the family as possible.

Are you better prepared than Abraham Lincoln?  He died without a will and his wife almost received nothing. At that time, wives did not get part of an estate unless there was a will. The estate took 2 1/2 years to settle and it was divided equally between his wife and 2 sons, I wonder if this is what Abe wanted!
