After struggling with memory issues for years, Mike decided to see his doctor to try to resolve the ongoing problem. He was only 58 when he received the news that would change his life forever.
“We got the results back… I’ll always remember the date – August 14th of last year – sitting in the doctor’s office and he said they had the results back from both the neuropsychological exam and also from the spinal tap and it was positive; the diagnosis was early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.”
In a few short weeks Mike went from the COO of company to being on disability. Now, he’s trying to use his devastating diagnosis to empower others.
“No, the prognosis is not great, but I think what I try and give people is a little hope, along with [the fact that] people need to be aware; they need to know what the warning signs are,” says Mike. He lectures in his home town and wants to show people that life can continue on after a diagnosis.
